INGREDIENTS - for the vegan "Brotzeit"
- Root bread (homemade or from the bakery)
-
Vegan spreads and cold cuts
- Fresh vegetables of your choice
- Ginger Shot Classic
Arrange all ingredients as desired on a platter or board. Slice the root bread, combine with spreads and cold cuts, and complement with fresh vegetables. Serve the ginger shot chilled.
The freshly baked root bread is ideal as a base for a vegan "Brotzeit." It becomes particularly creamy when combined with plant-based spreads, such as vegan liver sausage in mushroom, natural, or coarse varieties. For those who prefer something heartier, the bread can also be topped with vegan cold cuts or salami. The purely plant-based range from Die vegane Fleischerei offers a diverse selection for this. Whether for breakfast, brunch, or dinner – a vegan "Brotzeit" is uncomplicated, satisfying, and quick to prepare.
ROOT BREAD
Root bread is made from a simple yeast dough and requires no elaborate kneading. The slight twisting of the dough creates its typical rustic shape – ideal as a base for a hearty "Brotzeit."

ROOT BREAD - RECIPE
- 500 g wheat flour
- 10 g salt
- 10 g fresh yeast or ½ sachet of dry yeast
- 350 ml lukewarm water
- 1 tsp sugar or agave syrup
- 1–2 tbsp olive oil (optional)
Dissolve yeast and sugar in lukewarm water and let stand for 5–10 minutes until bubbles form. Mix flour and salt in a bowl, add yeast mixture and optional olive oil, and stir to form a soft, slightly sticky dough.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for approx. 2 hours, until its volume has significantly increased. Preheat oven to 220 °C top/bottom heat.
Place the dough on a floured work surface, do not knead, divide into two pieces, pull lengthwise and twist slightly. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place a small bowl of water in the oven and bake the loaves for approx. 30 minutes until golden brown.
Let cool before serving.
